We are a drop-in centre for the over-60’s run by a committee of volunteers. We encourage older people in our community to drop in at the club. New members to the club are welcome and we make them feel at home and at ease. The first visit to the club is free and thereafter, there is a fee of £4 per session, after which they automatically become members and can attend the AGM. New members are required to fill in a form with their personal details, which is required by law. The information is confidential and will remain so. We celebrate birthdays, with special emphasis on the 0’s, for example 70, 80, 90 and 100. If anyone is uncomfortable with celebrating their birthday, they should inform a member of the committe.

Volunteering

As we grow in numbers more help is needed to cover holidays, sickness etc. With the increasing number of members it has become too much for one person to collect cups and plates and to stack the tables and chairs at the end of the sessions, therefore, more help is urgently needed.

Transport

Because of the shortage of volunteers, it is becoming difficult to collect people for the start of the sessions, but there is no problem taking people home at the end, providing we have help stacking the tables and chairs.

Monthly/Quarterly Newsletter

We needed a volunteer to write a newsletter, both on paper and online, and Tony Scawen has kindly volunteered his services.

Rent

We need funding of £1,812 per year starting from the 1st September. Up until now Store Property has covered the cost of both sessions, for which we are most grateful, but from now on, they will only cover the cost of one daytime session. However, we do have the use of the hall on Tuesday evenings and would like to hear your suggestions on how this could be used e.g. film show, tea dance, music night, etc.

Fitness

Last year, funding was secured for members to attend fitness classes, e.g. Gentle Fitness, Breathing and Meditation, Gentle Yoga and Tai Chi. These classes are free to regular members only after one month’s membership of the social club. Please register with Annet before attending. The grant ends in December.

Telephone Tree

Each committee member has 6 members on their branch so that in an emergency, e.g. cancelled sessions etc., members will be contacted by the committee member on whose branch they are listed.

Suggestion Box

Any suggestions you may have would be most welcomed with regard to activities, talks on particular subjects and visits etc. Bear in mind that some people are less able-bodied than others and must be taken into account.

Samsung Tablets

We have 10 of these tablets in our possession for which free tuition is offered. They can be taken home but must be signed out and returned weekly for updating.

Diary

It is our intention to bring back a diary where, once a month, we aim to do something different during the session. Last year (2020) we had a different activity planned for each month, but, unfortunately, plans had to be scrapped because of Covid. Any suggestions will be gratefully welcomed.

Photo Competition

Members are asked to bring in photos of themselves as small children which will be numbered and displayed for other members to identify. There will be a prize for the member who correctly guesses the most photos.
